What, Me Organized?
Disclaimer: I fully acknowledge that this page mostly, if not totally, serves to benefit me. But hey, it was a nice list, and I’d like to be able to reference it.
As I figured it on my last day of work at Acadia, one key to organizing all of my stuff is the same key that makes GTD work: just as GTD encourages you to develop a distinct and “trusted” path for all of your thoughts, I need to develop a distinct path for each kind of stuff I need to organize. (On that note, the only literal quote I managed to remember from Getting Things Done, the book, is “You should never have a thought twice, unless you enjoy having that thought.” Good stuff.) So here’s the plan.
- papers
- reference: filed
- todo lists: letterhead
- blank paper/notebooks: pile/storage
- books
- ideas
- next actions: letterhead
- creative ideas (“sparks”): letterhead-goals (?)
- “follow-up-on”/”research…”: ???
- clothes
- folded: bureau
- hung: closet
- hangers: closet
- office supplies: ???
- electronics
- devices: ???
- media: ???
- cables: ???
- boxes of stuff: PROCESS!
- decorative items: ???
- furniture: no processing, but beneficial arrangement
- consumables (paper, light bulbs, etc.): ???
- mementoes (tickets, life detritus): ??? (ideally, some box or book…)
- toys/novelties: ???
- landing strip stuff: landing strip
Also, since a general wishlist would be nice, consider incorporating sparks into that system: both are non-temporal, non-prioritized ideas. Letterhead (goals)? Or a new system?
